How does the process work?
Once an application has been received, it will be reviewed within 7-10 business days. If approved, the applicant will be contacted at the email or phone number provided on the application with all of the approval details, including amount granted and next steps. Once approved, the applicant gets to go shopping! If an applicant has asked for a refund for a previously purchased wig, details about how to receive the refund will be provided. Wigged Out will provide payment in the approved amount directly to the wig boutique selected by the applicant. For more information on the application and approval process, please visit our application page.
I’ve submitted my application. How long until I find out if I am approved?
Applications are accepted on a rolling basis, and are reviewed weekly. Once an application is received, the applicant will be contacted within 7-10 business days.
How much funding does Wigged Out provide?
Funding is variable, and dependent on many factors, however, most of our applicants are able to find a high quality wig that they love with the funding Wigged Out is able to provide. Funding may also be used to help offset the cost of a wig.
Can I be approved for more than one wig?
Wigged Out will consider applications from an individual applicant once per calendar year. Applicants may use their funding towards wigs, caps, scarves, hats, and hair care kits.
How long do I have to use my funding once I’ve been approved?
Awards for wig funding must be used within 90 days of notification, unless an extension is submitted and approved in writing by Wigged Out. Please submit all extension requests to hello@wiggedout.org. After 90 days, the award will be forfeited and applicants must reapply.
Do I need to submit proof of my medical condition with my application?
Yes, we require proof of medical diagnosis with your application to be eligible for consideration. Acceptable forms of proof include diagnostic report, radiology report, a doctor's or patient navigator note, a prescription for a wig, etc. Proof of medication condition may be uploaded directly in the application, or emailed to admin@wiggedout.org. A full list of our updated policies may be found here.
Do you have an inventory of wigs to choose from?
No. Wigged Out provides funding for individuals to shop for a wig that they choose from a reputable wig boutique. Wigged Out’s mission is to help restore a sense of self and confidence to those who have experienced hair loss, and therefore we believe it is crucial that our applicants are able to shop for their own wig and are empowered to choose the cut, style, color, and fit that makes them feel their best.
If I do not use my entire approved amount for a wig, may the remaining funds be used for something else?
Remaining funds may be used towards the purchase of wig care items, such as shampoo kits, or other head coverings such as scarves or caps.
Do you accept gently used wig donations?
No. As Wigged Out does not keep an inventory of wigs, we cannot accept used wig donations. However, there are other local organizations that can benefit from a used wig donation, including the American Cancer Society, Reba’s Vision, and Face in the Mirror.
Do I need to shop at a specific wig boutique?
No. Wigged Out is only able to fund wigs in Arizona, so funding must be used at a wig boutique in this state. However, Wigged Out is able to provide a list of reputable, preferred boutiques that have provided excellent customer service and discounts to Wigged Out applicants in the past. Do I need to pay anything out of pocket for my wig?
Applicants are not required to pay anything out of pocket. Applicants are typically able to find a stylish, high quality wig within the approved amount provided by Wigged Out. However, if the selected wig is above the approved amount, the remainder will be the responsibility of the applicant.
If I already purchased my wig, am I eligible for a reimbursement?
Unfortunately, Wigged Out is no longer able to offer reimbursements for wigs previously purchased. A full list of our updated policies may be found here.
I am not located in Arizona, can I apply for assistance?
